Well, another question for your all.... Upon closer inspection of my new Piper, the pottie is this: A blue bucket with a drain. Question, does this drain hook directly into the pipe to the pump out fitting on deck? Does this mean that the "blue bucket" hold the contents till the system is pumped out? Hmmmmm, I hope not, but I fear the answer I may receive. Is there a holding tank of any kind??? Does anyone here use this system? Does it smell? Thanks!!!

When I got windy Island, the head was gone but the dain was left in the openning. I did major excavation removing the existing pump out line through the anchor well to the pump out on the deck. I enlarged the opening and installed a 3" flex conduit for future plumbing. I enlarged the existing head hole because my new sanipottie didn't fit. I will complete the plumbing next spring so I'll be legal when we gather. I'll provide pics when I complete the work in the spring. It wasn't easy getting the existing line out but I'm glad I did it.IP: 209.217.117.198 |

When we got Shortwave, the old bucket style had been cut out and a Thetford head was installed with new pumpout to the deck. This head has a holding tank built in (under) the seat. It sits a bit higher than the original. It's my understanding the very reason everybody takes the old one out is: 1) The bucket indeed holds the contents (it is the holding tank) and.. 2) It can stink. Rob, we went down this road not too long ago http://www.vaxxine.com/clsailboats/ubb/Forum1/HTML/000632.html Yes it can smell, but to combat that, make sure you add chemical right away!! The chemical takes quite a bit of the "edge" off! Make sure to also keep the snap on lid in place at all times! This is a pain in the a$$, because the head isn't quite ready when you need it. The lid keeps the odors down, and prevents splashing, which will occur when beating to weather!! On that other thread, I mentioned that we could make a group purchase on a new head. I plan to do my shopping after Christmas, and will get quotes for multiple purchases, and post them here.Eric [This message has been edited by Eric (edited October 19, 2004).] IP: 130.63.85.93 | |
