Hello All: Late last week I was introduced to an interesting website http://earth.google.com/index.html This site gives us satelite imagery of any place on earth and shows the GPS co-ordinates for wherever you are. So I thought it may be fun for us to pass the time by entering in our co-ordinates and we can all have a better idea of where each other sail etc. To use the site just do the free download and you're off and sailing. To get the ball rolling I initiatlly sailed my CL 16 Celtic Kiss at the Glenmore Resevoir : N 50 58 56 W 114 06 25 and then in 1999 I was introduced to a much larger lake (Ghost Lake) known for great mountain winds from the Canadian Rockies N 51 12 35 W 114 43 04 But now the home port for Celtic Kiss is in Pirate Harbour N 45 35 12 W 61 22 56.75 Have fun everyone !! Sid / Don: I found Carter Lake and noted that it's quite similar to Ghost Lake in Alberta. Your lake is much larger and I'm sure the winds from the surrounding hills can be quite exhilerating at times. And I also see that Don lives quite close to my girlfriend. Thanks for playing. The winds are unpredictable. Always hearing of a capsize. Carter Lake is where I got my personal best boat speed. 7.6 miles an hour. Sid IP: 207.200.116.203 |

I made this up for another forum. Basically it's Central Ontario, and I numbered various places I've sailed this year . I am a trailer sailor, and like to get around!
X is where I live. 1 is the Midland/Penetang area of Georgian Bay.(a little bit to the east of the #) 2 is Parry Sound 3 is Lake Simcoe 4 is Lake Rosseau 5 is Chandos Lake 6 is Balsam Lake We are truly blessed with an abundance of lakes in this area. Only time gets in the way of exploring and sailing new areas. Google Earth is a pretty cool site. Eric [This message has been edited by Eric (edited November 02, 2005).] IP: 130.63.85.93 |

We sail on Lake Rosseau which is just to the left of #4 on Eric's map. It's connected by rivers and locks to the other larger lakes around it; Lakes Muskoka to the south and Joseph to the west. If you look at a larger scale map you'll see there's almost more water area than land.Eric has shown the incredible trailer potential of the Sandpiper. We have friends with bigger boats who pay $1,000.00 to trailer their boat from Toronto to Perry sound for a weeks' cruise. Their only other option is to sail, which takes days before you get to your destination. We can easily and affordably do the same trip on a long weekend. As I've said before; "upwind at 55 mph!". Some of you may remember I pulled the Valhallabreeze from Denver to Rockport Texas to go sailing about three years ago. With my new motorhome it is now up wind at over 70 MPH. The Sandpiper is a great Trailor Sailor. Here is a picture of us motoring on the intercoastal waterway there. IP: 207.200.116.203 |

MapPoint says..if I dip down into New England as far as Boston and then head west...it's only 926.8 miles one way ....Halifax/Fort Erie. If I stick to Trans Canada etc it jumps to 1181.3 miles[This message has been edited by whited (edited November 08, 2005).] IP: 142.167.230.201 |
