My old Chrylser outboard doesn't like to start or run anymore. I would like to take it someplace for sevice but can't find anyplace that will look at small, old, Chryslers that stopped production years ago.
I have a service manual, but don't enjoy working on engines, and have a poor track record.
Has anybody any experience with small marine engines that suggests that working on this might be really easy and I should try it myself, or really hard and I should buy a new motor if it comes to that.

We have an old Merc 9.9hp that most marinas or boat dealers didn't want to look at. They felt we should buy a new motor.

We took it to our local small motor repair shop. The kind of place that repairs chain saws, lawn mowers, snowmobiles, etc. He put in a new magneto (not an original merc part) and tuned up the motor. Also changed the impellar (Part that keeps pumping the water to cool the motor). The 35 year old motor still going strong.

I've got a British Seagull 3 hp long shaft that turned 50 this year. The biggest problem might be finding parts, although if you know what you're looking for, the internet can be a great tool.

Sounds like these motors can last a long time. I'll look for a small engine shop and ask if they will look at it.

Thanks

Check out the Oct. 13, 2004 posting "Pics of Windy" and see how I installed my ladder from CL last year. We like it.

Yes, that's the way I had planned to mount mine. Any trouble climbing back on the boat in light swells??

Mo problems so far.
This was to be a response to the boarding ladder posting. I guess I had another senior moment.
