I haven't raced for over 30 years. Then it was in a class. How does the Portsmouth rating work. The CL16 is 97 and CL14 is 96.
How is mixed fleet racing scoring determined with the rating?
I found a place that has a mixed fleet and I am interested in getting involved.
Thanx tom d

We use a PHRF time on time program. A cl16 rates 252 in PHRF. Use this formula to convert PM to PHRF (portsmouth rating -
55)*6. If I were you let the race committee worry about the scoring, you just worry about
sailing fast.

Here's a simple intro to Portsmouth handicaps: http://www.ussailing.org/portsmouth/index.htm

And a current list of Partsmouth Numbers: http://www.ussailing.org/portsmouth/tables05/tables05cb.htm

Basically, you just divide the elapsed time by the PN and multiply by 100 to get the corrected time. Lower numbers -> faster boats. The CL-16 has a PN of 96.1 and the 14 has a PN of 104.1.

Where did you find a mixed racing fleet in the Lansing area? I live in Ann Arbor and have been looking around for mixed fleet opportunities. I own an Albacore, not a CL, but our sailing club* has two CL-16s so I'm familair with the boat. If you're interested in racing one-design we could put three boats on the course. If we can get Lee Hollander to come out, we could race four CL-16s.
