Hey, has anyone been following the Vendee Globe? I lifted this photo from the website. It shows the conditions in the 1992/1993 race. Extreme stuff, eh?

I wasn't following the race but will now. Thanks for the link. I see the leaders are already to New Zealand....amazing.

In 1992 a Canadian died during the race. Gerry Roufs (sp?). If you ever get the chance read the book "The God Forsaken Sea". It covers that particular race and is only $4.99 at chapters for soft cover. It is truly amazing. Competitiors turned around in the southern ocean to beat into 60knot winds to rescue fellow competitors.
Cheers,

This time around there is a Canadian-born sailor with an address in France. Benoit Parnaudeau. He is sailing an older generation Open 60 and is in 12th (of 20 starters).
I think of my 'Piper as an Open 18.
Merry Christmas to all sailors.
