Since my wife was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease a little over a year ago I haven't sailed my CL14 very often. I do take her on a larger boat once in a while, but I don't trust us in the dinghy. To compensate for this I built a Soling 1 Meter radio control kit and we go sit on the lawn by a local lake and sail for a couple of hours. It isn't the same but it is still quite enjoyable. It is funny that you have to concentrate more on the r/c boat because you often have only your eyes to tell you what is happening on the boat. The wind on your face may not be the same as what the boat is experiencing. I don't know if any of you have tried r/c sailing, but it is a quick way to get "on" the water. IP: 63.206.242.2 |

Sorry to hear about your wife. Do I dare suggest a little 2.5 hp outboard for your CL14. That way you still get on protected waters and she can sit without the worry of booms, heeling etc. My wife is nervous of the water. That forced me to sell my CL 14 and move up to the Sandpiper. She seems to think she'll be safe if she's high enough off the water.IP: 156.34.48.6 |

Hi, California -The scene you painted is a lovely one - you and your sweetheart sitting on the lake shore "sailing." Sounds like a great way to get out in the fresh air and sunshine and still enjoy some time taming the wind. Good for you for coming up with a creative solution. Thanks for sharing! Best wishes to you and your bride for a sunny summer, Christy (a fellow CL-14er) IP: 12.16.164.205 |

My wife's grandfather has stopped racing keel boats and has helped start up a RC Soling fleet at our club. About 14 of them go out to one of the piers and they have a course set up on the water and they race once or twice a week. At the end of the year when the keel boats are receiving their prizes the RC boats are included and have the exact same ceremony. It's very interesting to watch especially since like you said you are not where the wind is so it is one hundred percent visual. We see some amazing sailors demonstrate why they were so good on the keel boats with their RC boats. I say congrats on finding a very close alternative!
