on my starboard fairlead track I am missing some screws, and some are fairly loose (enough to pull out).

Was gonna do everything until my dad came over and filled my mind with doubt, so I decided to ask here for help.

To put the screw in, I'd put some silicone in the hull then screw it through and let harden right?

Does anyone know if the screws have nuts? one of the screws is loose, but turn loosely both ways, and won't come out when I pull. I thought of yanking it out, but decided instead to ask you guys first, since I can't reach it through the cap, I thought not, but wasn't sure. The first screw on the other track had no nut, but it's more screwlike than the others, which resemble bolts but for lack of nuts. What are your opinions? Why is that one screw stuck?

Never use silicon calking on any boat, except perhaps on windows.
Get some proper calking material from any marine store such as:
3M 4200, Boatlife, or Sikaflex
Since you're in Canada, 3M 4200 can be found in the boating section of Canadian Tire.

Home Depot has lots of stainless bolts and nuts to replace the ones you're missing.

Don't get 5200, it's very permanent and too difficult to remove in future.

The track should be removed, the holes in the deck calked and then bolted down again semi-tightly.

Wait an hour before final bolt tightening so that you don't end up squeezing all of the calking out.
Have lots of paper towels ready...the stuff is quite messy! It's easier to trim the hardened excess calking away with a razor knife the next day rather than wipe it up with a towel. Good luck!

Thanks, saw my friend do it on his Laser on Wednesday, so I think I'm ready.

what does
quote:
Technical Data Sheet for Sea-L
[qb]deck seam sealant[/qb]

mean?

Because it says not to use it for that. I hope this is different than fastening deck hardware.

Never mind, checked it with my dad
