I'm just getting use to my CL-14. I noticed that if the main sail is not up, the boom interferes with the tiller. On other boats I have installed a topping lift. Holds the aft end of the boom up. Can this be rigged? If so, how? Are there other ways around this problem? Thanks Jim

While drysailing in my driveway, I rigged a double bungie cord from the boom end to the main halyard. This acted like a topping lift.

I installed a topping lift on my CL16. I attached a line to the top of the mast. I had an existing screw and I attached the line to that. It must be long enough to reach the aft end of the boom plus a extra 2 feet or so. I have a small loop on the boom end(existing) that I run the line thru.I then attach it to a cleat on the boom. You cluld attach the cleat as close to the end of the oom as possible if necessary. When rigging I pass the line through the little loop and with a loop in the line big enough to go through the cleat and hook over both ends of the cleat. This keeps it in place and handy. It should be long enough that it will not interfere with the sail while sailing. To use the topping lift I pull the line until the boom is at the wanted height and wrap the line around the cleat. This works great on my boat. Only problem I have had is that sailing solo I sometimes forget to release the lift when I start out and it interferes with sailing. Also difficult to release while sailing solo. Good sailing Tom D.
