Patrick:

These photos are almost pornographic.

You got quite a bag of toys with Barefoot. As the others said, everything looks like standard-issue. Eric has a 4:1 mainsheet, but my boat has the same hardware as you and it is only 2:1. My vang was 3:1.

There have been threads about the load-carrying capacity of our trailers being a little shy. Your trailer is the first that we know with dual axle. You may have aced on that one.

My God, 'pipers are pretty.

Superpiper,

How do yo find the 2:1 mainsheet? Is it with 5/16 or 3/8 line?

I have the original manual and another that I picked up when I was at CL sailboats over the summer, and both manuals state the Mainsheet and vang to be 2:1. Yet when I talked with CL today they sell the blocks for the Mainsheet to be at a 3:1 purchase. It seems that if I would like a 3:1 mainsheet I have to go to 5/16 line because no one makes the block w/cam for 3/8.

I'm use to the mainsheet being attached to the center of the boom when I had my flying jr and DS16. Each of those boats had a 3:1 & 4:1 purchase. I've never tried the mainsheet attached to the end.

OK, a little pictorial Patrick
My [old] boom vang, with the strop, as shown in my manual. The strop elevates the V jam cleat off the deck better. IIRC my line is 1/4.

My new one is RWO. The 7224 has a becket to gove me 4:1, when used with the 5218 fiddle. My fiddle is gray.

They aren't Harken, but I think they're sufficient for my Sandpiper. Easy on the pocket book to

Here's the best I have of my mainsheet. It's at least 3/8. Can't wait to reproduce this moment again. Hot sun, shorts, shades, and ice cold beverages .

All these blocks are RWO of varying vintages. The mainsheet fiddle is a Ronstan. These are what I got with her. I would like to replace the mainsheet sometime. I doesn't run as free as I'd like.

Nic Pic Eric,

What size winches are they?. Did you do that conversion yourself? I am thinking of doing the same but you are the first I have come across that has them.

Thanks

The winches are on the boat next to the Sandpiper.

Imagine that size winch on a 'Piper....
I'd be happy with a baby one on the 'cabin roof' to help me raise the mast singlehanded.

Good call, I thought they were kinda big for a Piper. I am putting a couple small ones on mine, just not sure which ones yet.

The picture with the winch was taken by my Sandpiper's previous owner. This was last June, on Lake Simcoe. There was no wind, so we rafted up, took a bunch of pics of each other's boats, and consumed cold beer . It was a weekday, and we had the lake to ourselves.
His boat is a Kelt 7.6.
IMHO the only place where a winch would be handy, [for me anyway] is to have one for the main halyard. It would be especially handy when the halyard has stretched or slipped a bit on the cleat. Grinding on a winch would tighten it up. To compensate, I have rigged a cunningham to tighten the luff.
By the way, I'm showing my bud my jib downhaul line. He hadn't seen this set up, since he used the furler. I simply used the furling line for the downhaul
