I’ve just finished greasing the brass screw. I took photos of the event. Could anyone help me by giving me the information I need to post the pictures?

Great minds think alike, windy! I finally attacked that project too. I started a thread on the topic a while back. http://www.vaxxine.com/clsailboats/ubb/Forum1/HTML/000612.html

I'm guessing the screw on Shortstay hasn't been done in a long while, if ever! The pop rivets on the top plate were still pristene & the screw itself was dry as a bone. No wonder I busted a nut cranking it up & down. It should be slippery as a greased pig now. I'm eager to get out soon just to raise & lower it a few times.

I have a feeling that this conversation isn't new...

The bearings are in good condition. I have a new bearing package. I'll check again in the spring.

I'm all screwed up but not bent out of shape

I used a lot of marine grease

I put it all back together and lowered the keel all the way down. It is much easier to raise now.

Great shots of the keel job. So that's what the keel looks like! A cross member on the trailer prevents lowering it when thew boat's out of the water so I never got a chance to see it in 16 years. (except with swim goggles)

Yes a good job on pics.

I got real intimate with my keel this spring when I removed it for a rebuild. I spent maybe two weeks on it reinforcing, faring and barrier painting it to close to racing quality finish.

Unless I moved the trailer axel back I also couldn't lower it more than 8".

But what do I know I don't even own a boat at this point

(Dam I miss my boat)

Wow, very cool windy!

I'll be tackling this job before next spring as well.

Interesting comments about the trailers prohibiting lowering of the keel fully. I'm able to lower my keel almost completely to the ground. If I get the trailer wheels up on 2x10's, I can get it down about 90 turns IIRC[It's been a while ]

Also windy, it looks like you have some interesting wood trim inside your cabin. Adds a nice touch. If you're able, could you post some pics?

Thanks for sharing.
Eric

Eric, I'll try to get pics this weekend and post on Monday.
2short, thanks for your info on posting photo's, unfortunately, they wanted me to registed between midnight and 4am. I registered with dotphoto and used your instructions. Thanks again.
On a future post I hope we can discuss the finish on your keel.
My new 3500lbs axel moved back, the new 13" wheels and new tongue jack have made it possible for me to lower the keel all the way down. I need to back onto a piece of 2 X and raise the jack.
