I've been looking around the net, for info on the 1000 Islands, for next years cruise. I have heard before that the last two weeks of July can be quite busy. Here's a link to a thread on the topic:
http://bbs.trailersailor.com/forums/tsarchives2/index.cgi/read/179704

We shall have to investigate whether or not this is still the case, and how it will affect our trip.
On a positive note, Parry Sound wasn't too busy for a holiday weekend.

If you are looking for a place not too crowded, come on down to the Bras d'Or Lakes in Cape Breton. If we allowed a few days cruise, we could probably launch in the lakes, pass through the St. Peters canal out into the Atlantic Ocean, then west through the Lennox Passage to the Strait of Canso......
or stay in the lakes and head to Baddeck.

Greetings folks! I've been flat out for the last 4+ weeks co-producing, co-directing, acting, and doing lights for a theatre show that opened two weekends ago. A bunch of one-acts. Got to sail down on LI Sound last week after we opened, which was a great relief. Anyway, I've missed visiting here!

Been catching up & am green with envy over Parry Sound. I'm thrilled to see next year's rendezvous is contemplated to be at Gananoque. Did a Mapquest search & see it's just a bit over 300 miles. THAT is very doable!

Also glad to see it's moving east... maybe we could get all the way to Lake Champlain one day???

We may have a problem with a Rendezvous at Gananoque. The City Marina would be fine and we would have an area to park with trailers. The problem appears to be launching. There are overkead power lines (lower than our masts) at the ramp and we would need to set up directly on the ramp behind the line. Much too dangerous for us and we would hold up anyone from using it during our set up.
This is a town dock and these line should be underground. I'll contact the city and make them aware of the safety issue.

...same deal in the town of Killarney Ontario (gateway to Georgian Bay's North Channel) The main hydro lines run over and are strung lower than the Sandpiper's mast when rigging it on a trailer.

The convolutions I did when rigging and launching there were terrifying!

I know there's a marina somewhere close to Gananoque that doesn't have these power lines, as we docked there in the Saint Laurence 2.

The TSA'ers usually launch in Spanish ON, for their North Channel cruise. I've seen pictures on their website, of the Spanish Marina. Looks like a first class marina.
Thanks for the heads up Ken.
