I now have an assigned handicap from NSYA. Not only do I seem to have the only Sandpiper registered for racing, the shortest boat registered at 18.5 ft, I have the lowest handicap at 89. http://www.nsya.ns.ca/yachts/listYacht.cgi?sortBy=rating Can't wait!!!! I will race C class for now (white sails) I do have a spinnaker lined up, when I have it all in order, I may go up to B class, we'll see. It would increase my rating up to a 91. ------------------ Rob Belliveau 1976 Sandpiper 565 "CoolBreeze" Halifax NS Dartmouth Yacht Club IP: 142.176.14.228 |

Now the trick will be avoiding last boat across the finish line.[This message has been edited by whited (edited April 20, 2005).] IP: 142.177.154.253 |

Way to go Rob! We'll be all very interested to see how the Sandpiper stacks up against the other boats. Please let us know. D'ArcyIP: 67.71.54.41 |

From Rob's rating information:PHRF = 63,000/ASPN - 400 He was assigned an ASPN = 89 for white sails which produced a PHRF = 307.9. I don't know how ASPN was calculated. But I am impressed that the resulting PHRF was 307.9. On Lake Ontario, a Sandpiper has a rating of 311 - White Sails & 300 - Spinnaker. The 2 rating systems seem to have produced the exact same correction factors. Cool! Rob's calculated PHRF when he sails with a spinnaker will be 292.3. On Lake Ontario he would receive an extra 7.7 seconds per mile. What does A-S-P-N stand for? IP: 65.104.169.18 |

I am really lost and confused... How does a handicap affect your racing? and what is the difference between the two handicaps?------------------ Canadian Sailor ;) "Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. It doesn't affect your racing, just the final "corrected" RESULT! Since a larger boat, with larger waterline/more sail, goes faster, to make the race fair, the boats are handicapped. So all other things being equal, Rob doesn't have to sail as fast. With a spinnaker, he can go faster, so his handicap isn't as favorable. Did that answer the question or did I insult your intelligence by misinterpreting your question? IP: 198.115.167.19 | |
