My insurance company will not cover it with a span of 20 years they would like to know the year it was made. If you could check your records and let me know I would appreciate you help in this. I ask in the forums but only got more confused with the answers and dates from other numbers. Thank You Robert Hayes

Call Robertson & Robertson for a quote from their Skipper's plan. They covered my 1975 Sandpiper from 1989 until D'Arcy bought it last month. They are economical, they completely understand small boats and will not likely require a survey as you'd expect to need if you had a larger yacht.IP: 141.117.228.250 |

To follow up on Ken's comments. After researching a few companies (and getting the same runaround you seem to be getting), we insured with Robertson & Robertson. Ken's old boat which we bought is a 1975 Sandpiper. Robertson & Robertson are very familiar with CL Sailboats. We didn't need a survey; all they required was a few photos of the boat.Good luck, D'Arcy IP: 67.69.60.248 |

Thank you; Ken, Darcy I will look into Robertson & Robertson if that is all that is left , but I would like to keep all my policy's with the same company if possible - If I can,t get a build date from CL then I will have to rethink Insurance Companies and or haul the Piper into a city and locate a marine surveyer I have tried to track down the original buyer but have had no luck. Thanks once again for your suggestions.Happy Sailing is on its way Bob IP: 216.209.120.59 |

Generally you will find that Car/Home/Business/Cottage insurers will not be your best bet for small boat coverage. They treat a boat like a car......and don't understand the concept of boat value "APPreciation" over the years. They only understand DEpreciation, book? value, (whatever that is on a Sandpiper I surely don't know) and unreasonable premiums! Small boats, generally under $10K don't require a survey, unless the company is used to insuring larger yachts only.[This message has been edited by Ken (edited May 10, 2004).] IP: 141.117.228.250 |

I completely agree with Ken. My homeowners/auto insurance co. would not insure my boat unless I surveyed it! That was going to cost about a third of what I paid for it! I have my boat insured with the Skippers Plan at Robertson&Robertson. I insured the boat for an agreed value including motor and trailer. I can handle their price easier too.Eric Sandpiper #144 IP: 130.63.85.93 | |
