Hi,

Has anyone figured out how the water gets between the cockpit floor and the hull of their CL 16? I first of all find it hard to drain completely. So each time water appears from bouncing around in the waves could be from what got in previously in the summer. I am not sure If I take any on while sailing or not under the floor. I usually have to tilt the boat forward to sponge out the remaining water. I know it is not the centre board bolt letting it in as I have checked while sailing. I know the gunnel seam leeks a bit at the lazarette, but does not let in much and does not drain in under the floor.

I can go sailing for a few hours putting the rails and sides right under water and take on only a little water if any under the floor.
While the boat is sitting completely covered during the week on it's dolly, I will take on much more water under the floor during one rainfall, than if I was sailing in heavy weather getting swamped with water and keeping the rails in the water. It can even be a light rain and this happens. I have to be careful and remember to plug the forward bouyancy tank before lowering the bow, I leave it tilted up, because the rain water is well above it when I lower the bow to its normal sitting position.

Preparing for winter I spend hours mopping and drying the bilge out. I cover the boat and seal it from snow and rain but allow air to circulate. In the spring when I uncover it, the cockpit is nice and dry, but the bilge ends up with a fair bit of water again from somewhere unknown. It should not be condensation as there is too much, and I leave an opening for air to circulate so it can dry out.

Does anyone else get this mystery water and know where it comes from?

Thank You
Shaun CL2240
