Last summer the wife and I trailered "Jenny" to Picton for a two night stay in the Picton Harbour Inn. It was a lovely place to stay, great view over the harbour, reasonable rates and an attached good restaurant. The bonus here was the Inn has it's own docks that, in my case, came free with the room.
This area is the very end of the harbour, It was so shallow I had to wind up my keel to park in front of Rosebud.
Here are a few pictures of the Inn, parking lot and docking along with some general pictures

Open to all restaurant

Across the parking lot behind the red van is a vacant lot owned by the Inn, this is used for additional parking. I,m sure it could be used for all of our trailer parking if needed.

On the righthand side is the harbour office, boat ramp, toilet facilities and vehicle parking (see two grey trucks)

The ferry shown crosses at Glenora.

Noisy cement plant in the background.

Most excellent photos.

John, would you recommend Picton? Would you recommend it as a launch point or for a destination? I suppose it would depend on the prevailing winds. As D'Arcy suggested, Belleville to Picton may include more downwind sailing and less upwind slogging. Arthur is our official router. He could recommend one over the other.

For those who prefer not to camp on the boat, there are accommodations at each end of the sail. That may entice additional crew to participate.

I suppose we need to find out how many miles from one location to the other, and the availability of stops/facilities along the way. I can look into that tonight.

I believe it's 26 miles which would be a nice solid day-sail. If we had dock space reserved at Picton, we could arrive at 4ish knowing we have a place for all the boats.

As I recall, our Rosseau sail was just over 20 miles. If we left Belleville at 10:00a.m., I think we could do it. We might have to motor some in the afternoon if the wind dropped of.

Unless we're planning a one-way Rendezvous, we'd have an upwind course one day or the other, right? (Unless the wind gods smiled on us again and we get a westerly when leaving Bellevile, then a S-E wind when leaving Picton... start praying now.)

Hi Dennis, Picton is a really nice place to be, I'm sure it would make a great place to come from or go to providing docking and parking can be secured in advance.
We would need to look into the ferrying of our vehicles if we are doing a one way.

Belleville to Picton would make a wonderful, scenic cruise, even for the shuttle vehicles.

DISTANCES
Google Maps gives these road distances:

a) 28.7kms (17.9mi)/30 mins - Belleville to Desoronto;
b) 24.3kms (15.2mi)/22 mins - Desoronto to Picton;

ttl 53.0kms (33.1mi)

c) 34.2kms (21.4mi)/34 mins - Belleville to Picton (for vehicle shuttle).

The sailing distance would be somewhat shorter than the 53kms (33mi), confirming D'Arcy's estimate.

VEHICLES
Regarding vehicle shuttle, simply drive 3 vehicles from launch point to retrieve point, leave 2 and drive 3rd back to launch point. At end of cruise, the 2 vehicles shuttle up to 14 skippers back to launch point for their rigs. This return trip would take an hour or more.

Fantastic idea. We could spend the whole weekend exploring areas never seen before.

10:00am to 4:00pm is 6 hours. 26 miles in 6 hours is 4-1/3 knots average speed on the rhumbline. It may be a challenge to sustain that speed. It may be a good test of our skill and concentration and radio reception.

Is there a current in the B of Q? Do we need some coaching from Michel?

The Trent River flows into the Bay of Quinte, at Trenton. I suspect that any current in the bay would be going east, so it would aid the Belleville to Picton leg (if it has any influence at all).
