I am finally getting back to restoring my Sandpiper 565 after doing nothing for the last year

I have removed the old Porta Potty and have cut out an enclosure.

Hey Mark. It's good to have you back.

Good pictures. Nice progress on the head project. I just realized from the photos that the original head (plastic cistern, with drain, enclosed in foam) would have made a good ice cooler, but not a very good toilet.

Sapphire's upgrade was to a Thetford 8 Litre. It fit perfectly. However, 8 Litres is fine for day sailing, and we have survived weekends with it, but we have also filled it to capacity with overuse. It's the flush water that overwhelms it.

I'm wondering what capacities other Sandpipers have installed and how long they have been able to sail between pump-outs? At the Rendezvous, one boat had 4 crew. I wonder how the head fared for the weekend?

Mark, keep the photos coming.

This is a project that really needs to happen to the Minnow!
I am watching with much anticipation.

Once enclosure is completed I will install the Theford 260B Marine Potty which can be purchased from Amazon.ca. It has a height of 13" and will be approximately 2 inches above the enclosure. The cushions are 3" thick so I will make a thinner cushion for the top of Potty. With this Potty you get approximately 27 flushes.

Currently I am gluing thin conduit in cabin so I can run all my wiring for navigation lights and overhead lighting. All hardware has been stripped off boat and hopefully I will start an overall sanding shortly. Rub rails have been removed and will also need to be replaced. Wood was very brittle and just fell apart. I am thinking of maybe installing rubber rails but need to give it some more thought.

Good to be back. Hopefully I can make some progress this winter but work and kids are taking all my time. Yup your right old head was good for nothing expect maybe a cooler like you mentioned. Just knowing what it was used for I could not put my precious beer there. Your 8 Litre Theford any chance you can tell me the height of that one?

For rub rails I was looking at TACO Flexible Vinyl Rub Rail Replacement Kits with Inserts.

http://www.westmarine.com/buy/taco--flex...024_724_001_004

I have really not had a chance to look at the different options. I see for the TACO Vinyl Rub Rails there are many different sizes.

Any feedback on this would be greatly appreciated. I did see a post indicating not to even install them. I think I want to put something just to protect side of boat from rubbing up on dock.

11-1/2" high with the lid closed.

8 Litres is enough volume to hold all of the blood from a college cheerleader. And, it is that time of year again.

Haha....Scary..... I won't get as many flushes but that is a perfect height. Do you know the make and model of that unit?
