As an avid researcher, I am tracing all branches of my family tree, which has its roots in England and Scotland. My paternal grandfather, Frank Percival RALPH came to Canada from Surrey, England in the early 1900's. He was born in Bristol, Gloucester and his spouse, Alice Maud May JARVIS, was born in Lambeth, Surrey.
The RALPH family line goes back through Frank, his father and grandfather, to the Bath, Somerset area from the 1820's to about 1900. From the mid 1700's to the early 1800's the family was living in the London, Middlesex area.
The JARVIS family are basically from the smaller towns in the County of Essex such as Pitsea, Tilbury, Mucking, and Thundersley to name a few. They also moved across England from Essex to Surrey in the same time period.
Some of the names associated with the RALPH family line are: BENNETT, BULLEN, BULLIN, CLARK, CROSS, DAVIS, ELLIOTT, HEDGES, PERREN, PERRIN, POPE, ROACH, SPARROW, WOODINGTON.
Names associated with the JARVIS line are: ALLISTON, BASS, BUTLER, CLARKE, FIELD, GIBBONS, GREENWAY, HART, HEMMINGS, JENKINS, KENT, MAY, OSBORN, PHILPOT, RAWLINGS, REED, RICKETTS, SEWELL, THOROGOOD, TILEY, WALLACE, WEEKS, WHEATLEY, WICKS, WILLIS, WOODHAM, WOODMAN, WOODWARD.
My maternal grandfather, Andrew Sanderson PORTEOUS, came to Canada from Scotland about 1912. He and his wife, Euphemia RUTHERFORD were born and married in Inveresk, Musselburgh. Most of the family lines go back to the surrounding area that include the parishes of Edinburgh, Tranent, Leith, Newton, Prestonpans, Dalkeith. Some associated families are: BROWN, COLLIER, FALCONER, FALLON, HERON, LIDDLE, McFARLANE, McNEISH, MARSHALL, MILLAR, RITCHIE, SANDERSON, TAYLOR, VEITH, WALKER, WILLIAMSON, YOUNG.
