One of the first newspapers to be produced
on computers
using Desktop Publishing (Pagemaker)
Computer
Experience
Started with a Bally, 1K - all entries made
from a keypad
(i.e. A was Green and 1; B was red and 1;
C was Blue and 1, etc.)
Graduated to a Commodore 64 which I still
have.
It had a program called GEOS which had a GUI
interface
which made it easy to make the transition
to Pagemaker.
Then I found the Mac - what a machine.
Started with a 512, then a Mac Plus, now have
a Quadra 800.
Retired from newspaper business but now set
type for CREATIVE OFFSET, Thorold.
Computer
Clubs
Belong to a private club that are all buddies
from Commodore days.
I am the only Mac user, the rest are all IBM'ers.
It allows me to keep abreast of what's happening
in the other world.
It looks like Windows 95 might bring them
into the reality of the Mac experience.
Member of the NAMUG Club, the Niagara Region
Mac Users Group.
Meets at Ridley College the last Wednesday
of each month, except July and August.
I am currently putting out the newsletter.
Other
Interests
-
Have six children and 12 grandchildren.
-
Like fishing, have a bass boat
but can't seem to find the time to use it
as often as I'd like.
-
Volunteer at MacKenzie Print Museum, Queenston,
Ontario
Help out once in a while to give regular staff
a day off.
I've worked in the printing industry for over
40 years.
Started after school, then attended Western
University, Graduating in Journalism in 1952.
Have seen many changes in the printing industry.
I've set type by hand, linotype and then the
computer.
My main program is Pagemaker. Just ordered
upgrade to Pagemaker 6.
Have a nodding acquaintance with Photoshop
(my scanner driver),
and Adobe Illustrator.
Had brief encounter with Quark Express, but
found it cumbersome,
maybe because I started and was comfortable
with Pagemaker.
