Special Events for the Year 1752 - back to GREGSITE
In 1752, Great Britain and its colonies moved to the Gregorian
calendar, with the omission of 11 days in the month of September.
The calendar shown above corresponds to that shown in the almanacs
of that time. However, up to and including 1752, the legal year
actually began on March 25, with the period from January 1 to
March 24 being regarded as part of the previous year. This was
changed with effect from 1753, with January 1 becoming the legal
start of each year. From a strict legal viewpoint, therefore,
1752 was a remarkably short year in Great Britain, consisting of
only 271 days.
