Dr. Michael Riva Orthodontist

First Orthodontic Visit

In today's society, orthodontic care for children is aimed at prevention rather than reparation. Orthodontists prefer, when possible, to see children at a young age before major problems occur.

Start orthodontic screenings early...The American Association of Orthodontists recommends, therefore, that a child's first orthodontic screening visit take place by 7 years of age (ideally). This is when the first permanent teeth start growing in and, while there may seem to be no need of orthodontic treatment, bite problems can be present behind seemingly acceptable smiles. Treatment may not be started until years later; however, early examination allows Dr. Riva to detect and evaluate problems and plan the appropriate therapy.

Dr. Riva and the staff will make your child's first visit very relaxing and positive. This visit will include a clinical examination and evaluation of all the patient's orthodontic needs both present and future. There is no charge for this first visit.

If Dr. Riva feels orthodontics is indicated, but in the future, a free follow-up recall visit will arranged. On the other hand, if orthodontic treatment is best started soon, then Dr. Riva will suggest that diagnostic records, including x-rays, teeth models and teeth photos, be taken. A presentation will then be made to outline his proposed orthodontic therapy.
