 Dr. Riva earned his dental degree with honours and orthodontic diploma from University of Toronto. He received six academic awards and was elected to the Honour Dental Society.  He was Athletic Director of the Dental Students Society and a member of New College student council.
Dr. Riva created the original Niagara Peninsula Dental Association Web Site which has now been developed further by Dr. Peter Fritz and Quadrant Productions. For seven years he was the editor of the Niagara Peninsula Dental Association newsletter. Community involvement is also important to Dr. Riva. He sponsors many school activities and sports teams. In the last 15 years he has coached young athletes in several sports. Presently he coaches soccer and basketball.
