This reservoir on the Rio Grande River was created by a dam at Furnas, Minas Gerais. The Furnas Dam was started in 1957 and completed in 1963.
The Furnas Reservoir has a capacity of 22,590,000,000 cubic metres. The power station has 8 turbines of 152 megawatts each. There are 34 municipalities bordering the reservoir.

Recreational water sports and sight seeing are some of the activities developing on the relatively new Furnas Reservoir. Charter boats will take you to the water falls, escarpments and canyons around the reservoir.
This was our first stop. A dock and floating restaurant welcomed us near this cascading waterfall. There was time to take pictures and go for a swim.
