Smithville United Church Our Ministry Sunday Worship - 10:30 a.m. (July and August 9:30 a.m.) The entire family gathers in the sanctuary for
the beginning of worship. Following a sharing time with the younger members
the children and youth proceed to their Sunday School program. Nursery Care
is provided for infants to two year olds and is supervised by adults and
youth. Throughout the year "Family Worship" is celebrated where the
children and youth of our Sunday School remain with their families for the
entire service. Usually, the "Family Service" follows a different
format than our usual order of worship. On Communion Sundays the children and
youth also join the congregation to receive the Sacrament.
Sunday School Presently, we are trying a new curriculum . The bible story is the same for each of the
Sunday School classes but we explore many ways of learning the story. We have
a bible verse that we encourage the children to learn for each story. The
story is explored for three to six weeks. We have a Sunday School program for
three year olds to teenage years.
The United Church Women Purpose: To unite all women of the congregation for the total mission of the church and to provide a medium through which they may express their loyalty and devotion to Jesus Christ in Christian witness, study, fellowship and service. The ladies meet the first Tuesday of each month
at 1:30 p.m. (no meetings in July or August). They gather for fellowship,
worship, study and business. They meet periodically with other women of the
Church and Community; to "tie" quilts for the West Lincoln
Community Care; to hear Guest Speakers; and to share in joint programs.
Bible Study/Discussion Groups We have gatherings most Tuesday evenings at
7pm to study Lectionary readings. The remainder of the year is dependent upon
interest and need. So let your interests and needs be known!
Prayer Ministry Every Tuesday a group of persons gather in the
Parlour of the Church to pray at 9:00am. Our prayers are on behalf of those
in need of comfort and healing. We pray for the work of the Congregation,
Committees, Sunday School, world problems, etc. A quiet time with God is
beneficial for others as well as ourselves. If you
can only spend part of the hour this is quite acceptable. Each person comes
when they are able and leaves when they must. Prayers are silent or spoken
whichever is comfortable for you. Bring your prayer requests personally or
contact the Church Office.
Book Club: We have started a book Club that meets the fourth
Tuesday evening of every month at 7pm to discuss a book chosen by the group.
