What's Love Got To Do With It?
Tina Turner asked the question, "What's love got to do with it?" and when we think about the Christian faith, we might very well ask the same question. Sometimes it seems like Christianity is all about rules and regulations, that the Bible is a list prohibitions and that God is trying to ruin our fun. So what's love got to do with it?
Love is basically what God is all about. He created us so He could love us and have a relationship with us. Scripture says that "God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life" (John 3:16). Our sin damaged our relationship with God but Jesus came into the world as an act of love - to set things right between humans and God.
Shortly before Jesus went to the cross, He told His disciples, "Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends" (John 15:13). Jesus made that statement knowing that He would go to the cross and lay down His life for others. Jesus took our sin upon Himself and took our punishment with it. He did that so we could be forgiven and wouldn't have to eternally cut off from God - the God who loves us.
Christianity is not about rules and regulations, it is about a relationship with the Creator of the universe through Jesus Christ, His Son. Christianity is about walking with God, knowing Him personally, in a real way. It is about inviting Jesus to forgive us and to become part of our lives.
What's love got to do with it? Everything, if you're Christian. We know the love which God has for us because we experience it every day. We show that love for one another because of what God has done for us. As 1 John 4:19 says, "We love, because he first loved us."
If you're missing that kind of love, the eternal love of God, perhaps now is the time to turn to Jesus and ask Him to become part of your life. And if you're looking for fellowship, not just a cup of tea or coffee but genuine love and caring, why not join us on Sunday mornings at 9:00 or 11:00 a.m. and let us have the chance to get to know you and share with you the love of Christ.
