International: Canadian Foodgrains Bank (September-December)
is a non-profit organization, established in 1983, with 13 member agencies that are all Canadian church organizations, including the Presbyterian Church in Canada. Their aims are:
Reduce hunger and malnutrition
Support efforts of households and communities to grow or obtain food
Advocate for policies that will reduce and eliminate hunger worldwide
Donations are often matched 4:1 by CIDA, the Canadian International Development Assoc. The Foodgrains Bank sends aid to countries experiencing drought, natural disaster, civil conflict etc. Some countries currently receiving aid are Sudan, Afghanistan, Ethiopia and North Korea. Though our goal for donations was $3000, in 2006 we donated $5500.
