Life & Faith Stories

The Lenten series sounded like something that I might enjoy; it was about faith stories . . . More | Hello

Jesus In Your Life

"Whoever welcomes you welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me." -- Matthew 10:40

Open the doors to new people.
Understand that not everyone thinks the way you do.
Take time to greet a new face in the congregation.
Remember that God loves us all.
Everyone is welcome in Gods House.
Always try to encourage former worshippers to comeback.
Come into Gods House with love and hope in your heart.
Help others to know the God you know and love.

Outreach has tried to encourage members of the congregation to submit Faith stories to be included on the St.Giles website. We have received some but would love to have many more. We know that many of you have had significant events in your life which have led you to the church or kept you in the church. We know there have been times in your life when only the presence of God has made it possible for you to carry on. We know there are times when your faith has been tested. Perhaps some the following questions will help you to get started:

  1. What involvement did you have in the church when you were young?
  2. When did you know in your heart that there really was a God?
  3. How has God helped you in your life?
  4. When has your faith been tested?
  5. How did you react when your faith was tested?
  6. Do you still believe in God? Why or why not?
If you wish, we will submit these with first names only. Joyce S. for Outreach Ministry

    Our Ministry

    Have you...
    • spoken to a stranger who is sitting beside you?
    • invited someone who does not usually stay for coffee to accompany you downstairs?
    • phoned someone who hasn't been out to services for a while?

Our ministry is mapping out the direction we will take throughout this year. Outreach sends welcome cards to newcomers, we have handed out Peace candles to visitors and we continue to seek out the new faces in our midst to make them feel welcome here. We would like to do more personal home visitations to newcomers and invite anyone interested in being part of a visitation team to contact the Outreach ministry.
Flyers are distributed quarterly to the St.Giles neighbourhood, to areas in Port Dalhousie and to members who have not been attending regularly. The flyers include information about the church, ongoing events for various ages especially children and upcoming events for the next three months.

The biggest "thanks" goes to all of you who have made St.Giles your church home. We are so happy you are a part of this congregation. We invite anyone who has not yet been to St.Giles to join us for Sunday services.

    A Prayer For The People (Updated:September 16, 2009)

    Prayer for the People
Father in Heaven we lift your name on High. We are a community of
believers and we think You are wonderful. This morning we have a desire
to reach out to the world in the name of Jesus. You know us so well and we
need Your help. Some of us have sorrow and loss. It may be a fresh, raw
wound or a continuous niggle. Pain and illness can be a constant companion
or flash up unawares. We might be waiting for test results or learning how
to live with the news. Help us, Oh God, to turn to you for the answers. Help
us to trust! In our family lives and relationships, when things don't go the
way we expected, help us to see our part in the problem and to pray to you
    for guidance and resolution.

Our Canadian soldiers and support workers we bring to you in prayer. Help
them to endure their hardships – physical and mental – and help us all to
pray regularly for them and their families.

Lord god, guide our political leaders and decision makers in the right paths.
Help us all to cultivate listening minds and spirit as we now bring before you
    our personal concerns.

Almighty God, we pray for those who do not know You. We pray for those
who are not part of our church; may they find Your presence in the church.
We pray for our children and for those who are young in faith; may they
continue to grow in your truth. Keep us confident and hopeful in your word
and now to repeat the prayer you taught us:

Our Father who art in Heaven, Hallowed be Thy name,
    Thy Kingdom come,
Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our sins
As we forgive those who sin against us.
    Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil;
For Thine is the Kingdom, the power and the glory forever…
    Amen
