Objective

To Obtain a position as a teacher at the Primary/Junior level. Additional Courses will be sought upon graduation from The Faculty of Education's Pre-Service Program at Brock University to further my goals of working more closely with the Special Needs population.

The Lincoln County Board of Education
Educational Assistant, Full Time, 1994 - Present

South Lincoln High School
Was responsible for a wide range of needs with my involvement with an individual with Multiple-Disorders as he worked toward his goal of Graduation from the Secondary School System. These included Pro-Active Behaviour Management coupled with organizing an Academic Program that could address the needs while challenging the cognitive development of the student. Maintained high levels of communication and integration between home, school, board officials, government representatives, and independent practitioners to try and maintain positive outcomes within the school setting.

Briardale Elementary
Was hired to augment the Special Needs team in the Primary G.L.D. Class after behaviour issues manifested in one primary student. I was responsible for the initiation of an Active behaviour Management Program that eased the stresses of the student and fostered a better learning environment for the class as a whole.

Supply Educational Assistant, 1993-1994

Had a dynamic role throughout the Board of Education from the Primary to Secondary schools. My abilities were utilized from the Behavioral to Physical Needs of the student I was assigned to.

Niagara Penninsula Children's Centre
Supply Assistant / Volunteer, 1993-1994

Worked in the Primary to Senior Classes implementing curriculum as outlined by the Classroom Teacher. Other duties involved Assisting in Physio-Therapy regimens and assisting the students so they could accomplish other daily tasks such as Nourishment and Hygiene.

Grimsby Lincoln Association for Community Living
Supported Independent Living Counsellor, 1993-1994

Maintained close contact with clients who were living in semi-independent care to assure that their daily needs were being accomplished by the individual. Designed, implemented, and oversaw various Life Skills programs to further the independence of the client. Worked closely with clients designated High Risk where I sat on Multi-Disciplined teams of local and governmental representatives to oversee positive integration within the community.

Mainstream
Vocational Services / Supported Independent Living, 1990-1993

Was responsible for a wide variety of programming within the organization. The implementation and organization of Life-Skills, Vocational, and Recreational programs for the clientele were major functions of the various positions held.


Education
Brock University
Bachelor of Arts, Sociology, 1989-1991, 1992-1993
Primary focus was group and individual dynamics and the development of personality. Minor emphasis was placed on the history and evolution of government from medieval to contemporary times. Belonged to the Sociology Club at Brock University from 1990-1991 and helped organize various functions on and off campus.

Lakeport Secondary School
S.S.G.D., 1980-1985
Was very active in the Drama and Music Clubs within the school. Performances within the school, in the community and in other cities were major functions of these groups.


Skills

  • Proficient on Mac, IBM-Compatible, and Amiga computer platforms.

  • Extensive knowledge of many titles from the major software companies such as Corel, Microsoft, Adobe, Aldus, and Claris.

  • Proficient at Word processing, spreadsheet and database management, graphic manipulation, type-setting design, desk-top publishing, and cross platform integration.

  • Strengths in Microsoft Word5 to 7, Word Perfect 5.1 to 8, Corel Suite 6 to 8, (including but limited to Corel Draw 6 for Mac), Aldus PageMaker5.5, and Adobe PhotoShop4.0.

  • HTML and EHTML authoring for creating documents to be shared on the Internet and creating user homepages.

  • Proficient at woodworking layout and design as a hobby and Professionally.

  • Organization and Time-Management.

  • Leadership and responsibility roles accepted with enthusiasm.
