STEPS:

  1. Turn radio on.

  2. Select desired channel (#3 for VE3WCR in this case) using the channel/tuning knob.

    • Make sure the rig is in memory channel mode by looking for a white letter M inside a small dark background just under and near the left hand end of the S-meter. If the memory channel mode indicator is not showing, briefly press the [M/CALL|prio] button (single beep), which is 2nd from the left.

  3. Enter 'Set' mode.

    • Briefly press the [SET|lock] button (single beep), which is 6th from the left or right most button.

  4. Check and, if necessary, set 'rt' (repeater tone) frequency.

    • If 'rt' does NOT appear above the [SET|lock] label on the display, press the [SET|lock] button briefly (single beep per press) as many times as necessary.
    • Now, if the frequency display does NOT show 107.2, use the channel/tuning knob to adjust it.

  5. Check and, if necessary, set 'Ct' (carrier tone) frequency.

    • Briefly press the [SET|lock] button (single beep) to show 'Ct' setting in the frequency display.
    • If 'Ct' does NOT appear above the [SET|lock] label on the display, press the [SET|lock] button briefly (single beep per press) as many times as necessary.
    • Now, if the frequency display does NOT show 107.2, use the channel/tuning knob to adjust it.

  6. Leave 'Set' mode.

    • Press the [M/CALL|prio] button (single beep) once.

  7. Set desired tone mode.

    • Press the [TONE|t-scan] button (single beep), 3rd from the left until you see the desired tone mode indicator appear next to DUP - just above the gap between the 1st and the 2nd digits in the frequency display.
    • The single letter T indicates tone on PTT (the 'rt' frequency); the string T SQL tone on both PTT and receive; T SQL (()) indicates tone on both PTT and receive as well as 'pocket beep' being active; and finally, and empty string indicates no tone mode.

  8. Save changes to memory/channel.

    • Press and hold the grey [MW|s.mw] button (triple beep), located between the blue [BAND] button and the channel/tuning knob. Release the button. Now do that again - yes, that’s right: press and hold the [MW|s.mw] button (triple beep) a second time.

  9. Return to memory mode.

    • Press the [M/CALL|prio] button (single beep). This should return the rig to memory channel mode.

  10. Verify the programming.

    • Change to some other channel than the one you just programmed using the channel/tuning knob and then change back that channel to verify that in fact the desired tone mode indicator is being shown up with and to the right of DUP above the frequency read out.
