Connection Tips
"I seem to get
logged in fine, but I am frequently disconnected..."
Common Problems:
- First, a common
problem is Call-Waiting. If you have call-waiting, you
will have to disable it so that the beep on the line doesn't
disconnect you. Simply add *70w to the beginning of the
phone number that you dial to connect to Vaxxine.
- Line noise can cause
problems. If there is a lot of static on your line, this can
cause disconnects. Bell Canada may be able to help you.
- If the line is being
shared in the house, make sure that no one is picking up the
line, as this will cause your modem to drop.
"I have checked
all of this..."
Windows 95/98
- If you are using
Windows and Dial-Up Networking, you might want to try decreasing
your transmit & receive buffers. To access this, click the Start
button, go to Settings and select Control Panel.
Double-click the Modems icon. Select your modem (it may
be the only modem in the list) and click Properties (not
Dialing Properties). Click the Connection tab then click
Port Settings.... From here, you can lower the Receive
and Transmit levels. Lowering the buffers may help with
your connection. Click the OK and Close buttons
to return to the Control Panel.
- If you have tried
these solutions, you may need to call Technical Support at the
number provided here .
Windows 3.x
- If you are connection
with Trumpet Winsock, there are several options that you can
check. With Trumpet Winsock open, click the Trace menu.
If any of the options have check marks beside them, remove the
checkmarks. Having items selected can cause communications problems.
- Click File,
then Setup. Change the MTU setting to be 256,
change TCP RWIN to be 1024 and change TCP MSS
to be 216. We recommend using Internal PPP. If
you have a 14,400 modem, then set the Baud Rate to be
19200. If you have a 28,800 or a 33,600 modem, set the
Baud Rate to be 38400 or 57600, this will
also work with a 56k modem. Click OK. The changes
will take effect the next time you open Trumpet Winsock.
The Connection Tips
presented here are the basics. There are other items that can
be checked, but these are the most common problems. If you continue
to encounter disconnects, please contact Technical
Support.
