Internet News
Internet News allows
you to explore various articles posted on nearly any imaginable
subject by thousands of different people. You can also post articles
on subjects that interest you.
There are many News
Readers available on the Internet today. These instructions detail
the set-up and use of Internet News, which is installed by default
by our installation software under Windows 95. Internet News is
also installed under Windows 3.1x, but it is limited in what it
can do.
Documentation on the
Vaxxine installation CD has instructions for configuring Internet
News. There are not specific instructions for Windows 3.1x,
as the Internet News package is limited.
If you would like to
download the setup instructions (includes instructions for Internet
Explorer, Internet Mail and Internet News), click the link below:
Windows 95/98
The manual that is
available above is your best reference for using Internet Mail
for Windows 95. Internet Mail for Windows 95 is a full featured
News Reader. The manual has specific instructions for configuring
Internet News and how to read articles, etc.
Windows 3.x
To access Internet
News, open Internet Explorer, click the View
menu, select Options... then click the Programs
tab. Click the News... button. Check the Use Internet
Explorer to read Internet newsgroups check-box. Enter news.vaxxine.com
into the News server address: box. You can enter your name
and E-Mail address in the appropriate fields on this screen if
you wish. This is used when you post messages
Click OK in
the News and click OK again in the Options
window.
At this point, Internet
Explorer is ready to read newsgroups from our server. This Mail
in the Explorer Toolbar and select Read News. Internet
Explorer will then connect to our news server and download a very
large list of available newsgroups. This may take several minutes,
depending on the speed of your connection. Once the World
icon stops spinning in the upper-right hand corner of the screen,
all of the groups have been downloaded. Every time that you select
the Read News option is selected, the groups will be refreshed
from the server.
To find a group that
you are interested in, click Edit and select Find (on
this page).... Type in whatever key-words that you
might be interested in. Hit [ENTER] and you will be taken to the
first group that matches your search. Once you have found a group
that you might be interested in, click it to view the available
articles. To view an article, click it. The article will then
be displayed in your browser. If you want to post an article,
click the Post a message link.
Reading newsgroups
using Internet Explorer for Windows 3.1x is rather limited. You
will not be able to access all newsgroups, and you will not be
able to decode images.
If you would like a
more full featured news reader for Windows, we would recommend
using Free Agent, a great
news reader and fairly easy to configure. We do not have full
instructions on their use however.
