CGI Info - Policies

Details on Vaxxine's policies on the use of CGI scripts on the WWW server is provided here. Additionally, locations and versions of various CGI support software is listed.

The EHTML System

Vaxxine's extensions to the Hypertext Markup Language (HTML), encompassing everything from page counters to the inclusion and/or exclusion of portions of a page depending on where someone is browsing from. As an example of the power of EHTML, it can take less than a second to create a visitor counter on any one of the web pages at Vaxxine. You could create a summary log of each Internet domain that loaded your page, including (and optionally sorted by) the total number of loads - in about the same amount of time. Now, that's power.

As of Sunday February 13, 2000, 07:32 PM, you are visitor # 18502 to this page, accessing from [pc.vaxxine.com].

The last line took less than three (3) seconds to add to this page, no external scripts, no Internet confusion necessary.

VXNs

Designed to complement the CGI abilities of Vaxxine's WWW server VXNs provide a simple and effective means of accessing many of the features you normally require CGIs to handle.

Proxying (multi-homing) Your Domain

The registration of a domain with the InterNIC or other Internet agency grants you the right to use a domain name somewhere on the Internet. This domain name can be assigned to any server on the Internet. For instance, "darcy.com" is a domain assigned to the same machine as "vaxxine.com".

The mere registration of a domain name and this "grafting" onto Vaxxine's server would allow a page to be referenced as both http://vaxxine.com/darcy or http://darcy.com/darcy. However, it would not allow a reference to http://darcy.com to bring up a particular WWW page. A domain registration is a name only, with no particular WWW operations assigned to it.

If you wish to have a particular page come up on a base URL, such as http://www.darcy.com you must make use of a special "multi-homing" or "virtual hosting" system offered by Vaxxine.

Secured WWW Pages

The transmission of sensitive data, such as credit card numbers, should be viewed cautiously across the Internet. The Secured Sockets Layer is one way to keep prying eyes out.

Placing A Password On Your WWW Page

From time to time it is desirable to place a password on your WWW page to control the users that can access particular documents.

So What Does All This Cost?

For those who may be unfamiliar with Vaxxine's World Wide Web services for its clients, the following important points should be noted:

  1. There is no extra charge for a Vaxxine Internet client to setup their own World Wide Web page on the server so long as the pages are within your allocated disk space and under some circumstances an allocated bandwidth. Additional disk space, etc., may be licensed from Vaxxine at a nominal cost.
  2. There are no extra tolls for making use of features such as image maps, CGI scripts, counters, etc., in a WWW page so long as you prepare any custom CGI scripts yourself and your CGI script is not considered to be a drain on Vaxxine's WWW server.
  3. Vaxxine is always here to serve its WWW clients. You can create pages yourself, request a quote from Vaxxine to do so, or use a third party page developer. Vaxxine is happy to help with each option. You realize the biggest cost savings of all - no unwanted hassles . So long as you keep your page within the allocated disk space, single URL (http://www.vaxxine.com/yournamehere) and develop any pages and/or scripts yourself, you're all set.
