Virtual Hosting (Proxying) Your Domain
When you
register a domain name with Network Solutions or similar authority
you are doing nothing more than informing computers around the
Internet that your particular domain may point somewhere.
The mechanism that actually informs the computers as to where
your domain is to point to is referred to as the Domain Name System
(or Service) (DNS). By default domains you register actually point
virtually nowhere.
Vaxxine's DNS server can cause your domain to point to one of
two places. The default is the "location" containing Vaxxine's
home page. This means that when someone enters a URL of "http://www.yourdomain.com"
Vaxxine's home page will be returned. This type of configuration
is most often used when the custom domain is used only for e-mail.
The other location that the DNS server can point to is a special "virtual" area containing your
home page. This means that when someone specified a URL of "http://www.yourdomain.com" your home page would appear. Since there is substantially more
overhead involved in this approach there is a separate fee involved.
