About Me

I am a retired High School Science teacher. I had a very successful and satisfying, albeit exhausting, 29 years in the classroom teaching Chemistry, Mathematics, and a little Physics.

I have always been excited about the newest discoveries in Science, and many years ago developed an interest in Humanism and skepticism. After joining the Humanist Association of Canada I discovered that there is a group of Humanist Officiants providing secular wedding and funeral services to individuals who wanted dignified, yet non-religious ceremonies. I applied and took the training, and have been an Officiant since 2005.

My favourite quote is from the American philosopher Robert Green Ingersoll, who said, "The place to be happy is here; the time to be happy is now; the way to be happy is to make others so".

I am an active Humanist, being the Niagara Director-at-Large for SOFREE (the Society of Ontario Freethinkers, see Links).

I spend a lot of my retirement time doing volunteer work. I help with the local Heart and Stroke campaign, I canvass for the Canadian Cancer Society, and I'm a volunteer tutor with Family and Children's Services. I also help with elementary school visits to our Wainfleet Heritage Village.

My wife Janet is a retired Children's Librarian. We married in 1974 and we have two fine sons, Timothy and Paul.
